November at Hedgerow Promises Mystery, Music and Family Fun

Lovers of mystery, music and family entertainment, or anyone looking for a way to get into the holiday mood can all find something to enjoy this November at Hedgerow Theatre. The schedule includes Agatha Christie's Black Coffee, a musical version of A Little Princess, two evenings of holiday music by the Main Line Opera Guild, and two Saturday morning children's shows, Snow White and the Little People and The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.

Mystery fans can help Hercule Poirot solve a murder as Agatha Christie's Black Coffee continues through November 13th. The Belgian detective needs all his skills to figure out what went on at a British estate where he's summoned to help locate a missing formula for a powerful explosive, only to arrive to find its inventor has been killed. Performances are scheduled at 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and at 2 p.m. on Sundays. There is also limited seating available Thursday, November 10th at 7:30 p.m.

The family favorite A Little Princess returns from November 18th-27th. Vera Morris' adaptation of the novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett, with music and lyrics by Bill Francoeur, tells the story of a wealthy young heiress at a boarding school in Victorian England. The production is the culmination of a multi-generational show class, in which students of all ages learn acting and musical-theatre techniques. Performances are November 18th, 19th and 20th at 7:30 p.m., November 19th and 26th at 4 p.m., and November 27th at 2 p.m.

The Main Line Opera Guild will perform Holiday Music from Around the World on Saturday, November 26th and Sunday, November 27th at 7:30 p.m. The program includes selections from La Boheme, White Christmas, Die Fledermaus, Handel's Messiah and The Muppet Christmas Carol. The Guild, a group of trained professional singers, has been performing in the Philadelphia area for the past 19 years. Tickets for this special event are $15 for adults, $13 for seniors and $10 for those 17 and under.

At Snow White and the Little People, children from the audience can help rescue the title heroine from the Wicked Queen. The musical version of the Grimm Brothers fairy tale, adapted by Producing Artistic Director Penelope Reed, has performances on Saturday mornings at 11 a.m. through November 19th.

Then the Herdmans, known as "the worst kids in history of the world," take over the Hedgerow stage in The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, on Saturday mornings at 11 a.m. from November 26th to December 17th, and at 2 p.m. on December 27th and 28th. In this adaptation of the popular book by Barbara Robinson, directed by Loretta Wehbe, the Herdman kids are lured to church by the promise of free snacks and end up taking over the annual Christmas pageant. The delightful chaos that ensues ends up teaching everyone a lesson in the true meaning of the holiday.

Tickets for the children's shows are $9 for children and $11 for adults. There's also a Children's Pick Six package of six tickets good for any combination of shows in the Children's Package for $53.

Adult ticket prices for Friday, Saturday and Sunday shows are $29, Thursday shows are $25, and Wednesday matinees are $22. There is a $3 discount for seniors; tickets for students with valid ID and children under 18 are $10. Previews are $20, with no additional discounts. Prices include all fees and borough taxes. Also available is a special Flex-Six package of six mix-and-match tickets to any show for $135 for adults or $115 for seniors.
