Civic Theatre Of Allentown Presents ONCE UPON A MIDNIGHT 6/11, 6/12

By:

Civic Theatre of Allentown will present a three-show only run of Once Upon A Midnight, a play adapted from the works of Edgar Allan Poe, on June 11th and 12th in Civic's Theatre514. Admission is $10 per person, taken as a cash donation to Civic Theatre at the door before each performance. Seating is general admission and advance ticket sales are not available.

Once Upon A Midnight is the brainchild of Rae Labadie, a recent graduate of the Lehigh Valley Performing Arts school and a Civic Theatre School alum. Every word of this show is taken from the works of Poe, specifically his short stories "Shadow- A Parable" and "Masque of the Red Death", along with "The Raven", one of his more famous works.

This 60-minute piece is set in three unique parts including a dream sequence played out through dance and a pantomimed scene. In joining the arts of acting, dance and film, Labadie drew upon Poe's personal life to showcase Poe's writing as well as his loss of loved ones and ultimately creating a recurring theme of the inevitability of disease.

Labadie, an 18 year-old from Bethlehem says the idea to create this show "began with an urge to make theatre out of what it generally isn't. Poetry is not a typical theatrical production and that's what I think is so exciting about it." Labadie has created Once Upon a Midnight from her admiration of Poe and being "constantly intrigued by his imaginative tales and penetrating themes,"

This production is part of 514Works, brought back by Civic Artistic Director William Sanders, a series of events to be produced in Civic's black box Theatre514 as part of the True Friends of Civic fund-raising project. 514Works includes small-scale productions, solo and group cabaret nights and performances by the Associated Mess Improv Comedy Troupe.

Civic Theatre of Allentown's Theatre514 is located at 514 N 19th Street in Allentown. Free parking is available at the Wachovia Bank parking lot at the corner of 19th and Liberty Streets when the bank is not open.
