Christmas is high art at the Hedgerow this year, with Jared Reed in A Dickens Christmas. This stunning new adaptation of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, is a one-person tour-de-force that brings to life the original language of the beloved classic story. It runs from November 26th to December 12th at the Hedgerow Theatre. This bold, creative approach to the story runs in repertory with Hedgerow's two other Christmas shows: their classic, traditional A Christmas Carol, and the hilarious send-up of Christmas pageantry Nuncrackers.
After completing his heartwarming masterpiece, Charles Dickens spent years doing public readings of the book, and rocketed to his position as a literary superstar for his time. It was those same readings that inspired Jared Reed, master player and co-artistic director of the Curio Theater Company, to create his brilliant adaptation, in which he plays all the parts himself. This exciting new production debuted to critical acclaim at Curio Theatre in 2008."I decided to do it this way as this is how Dickens himself performed it," says Reed. "It lends itself to solo performance wonderfully and really brings the story alive in a way that is fresh for a modern audience by, ironically, getting back to the roots of how theatre was originally performed."Mr. Reed is a graduate of the Juilliard School in Drama. He has appeared Off-Broadway at The Roundabout and starred in The Woman in Black at the Minetta Lane. Some of his regional theatre credits include Seattle Repertory, McCarter Theatre, Yale Repertory, the Huntingdon, The Old Globe in San Diego. His most recent regional performance was at the Walnut Street Theatre in The Philadelphia Story. He has written and directed many shows at Hedgerow Theatre and for Curio, including Great Expectations, The Iliad, and The Hanging.g.Photo courtesy of Curio Theatre
