Flutist Barrett Yueh, 15, is a junior at Scottsdale's Desert Mountain High School. She has been a member of the Phoenix Youth Symphony for three years and is among the handful of high school students selected to attend renowned flutist and teacher Jim Walker's 2015 Beyond the Master Class summer program. Barrett has won prizes at numerous competitions, including the Arizona Musicfest Young Musicians Solo Instrumental, and the Phoenix Youth Symphony Young Musicians Concerto. Barrett also studies piano and contributes actively as a writer and artist on the Internet as a devoted fan of the television shows Doctor Who and Supernatural.

Pianist Vivian Zhao, 14, is a freshman at Hamilton High School in Chandler and currently studies with MusicaNova Young Artists Coordinator Fei Xu. Vivian won Honorable Mention in the 2015 Steinway Avanti Piano Competition and was accepted into the 2016 International Institute for Young Musicians camp in Kansas. A devotee of Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninoff, and Beethoven, recently she has been exploring new repertoire to expand her knowledge in music and style. A versatile musician, Vivian is principal bassist in her school orchestra. She enjoys tennis and playing with her cat, and volunteering with the Red Cross and regularly performing at senior homes.

MusicaNova's Young Artist Concerts series started in 2013 to give exceptional musicians under the age of 18 a unique opportunity to perform in a formal recital setting. Violinist Flavia Pajaro-van de Stadt, now at the Peabody Conservatory, said: "MusicaNova's Young Artist Series is a great place for young musicians to showcase their talents in a very supportive and encouraging environment, in a professional setting, while still in our formative years."

MusicaNova is a professional symphony orchestra founded in 2003 and dedicated to playing new and neglected music and introducing the finest new artists to the Valley of the Sun. MusicaNova is supported in part by grants from the Arizona Commission on the Arts and the Phoenix Office of Arts and Culture. Call 480-585-4485, or visit www.musicanovaaz.com.
