October is a month-long celebration of the 5th Anniversary of The Nash! Within 5 years of its opening, The Nash has welcomed some of the biggest names in jazz, has been named as a national "jazz hub," has served as a home for hundreds of young, new jazz musicians and is a vibrant part of Phoenix's bustling economic development downtown.

Celebrating these 5 years, The Nash namesake Lewis Nash will host a jam-packed weekend for the anniversary, with major events planned throughout the month of October.

The crown jewels of the celebration are the October 7th - 8th weekend's tributes to Dizzy Gillespie and Ella Fitzgerald in honor of their 100th birthdays, featuring world-renowned artists Roberta Gambarini, Roy Hargrove, Sharel Cassity, Cyrus Chestnut, John Lee and Lewis Nash, plus a Big Band Show with Darcy James Argue, and a special Nash Members Only event with Canadian saxophone master Cory Weeds.

Also in the month of October at The Nash: Emmet Cohen, Banda Magda, Francine Reed, Dmitri Matheny and many more great artists! (see calendar for all shows)
Tickets for The Nash 5th Anniversary events go on sale August 26, with a special EARLY BIRD pricing of 10% off when ordering before September 10th. This afternoon concert with the stunning duo of Roberta Gambarini and Cyrus Chestnut takes place in an elegant high-rise condo overlooking Phoenix Japanese Friendship Garden. Complimentary wine and hors d'oeurves will help to make this Ella tribute a memorable experience for a limited number of around 70 guests.

About Lewis Nash Internationally acclaimed jazz drummer Lewis Nash, named the most valuable player in jazz by Modern Drummer Magazine, was described by Ira Gitler of The Biographical Encyclopedia of Jazz as "Perhaps the most talented drummer of his generation." Lewis grew up in south Phoenix and by the early age of 10 years old began playing drums. At age 21 he moved to New York City, where he became the drummer of choice for an incredible array of artists - from jazz masters to the hottest young players of today. His 30-year career includes performance on 10 Grammy award-winning albums and an impressive discography of over 400 recordings with jazz legends such as BetTy Carter, Tommy Flanagan, Dizzy Gillespie, Oscar Peterson, McCoy Tyner, Hank Jones, Joe Henderson, Sonny Rollins, Ron Carter and Clark Terry, as well as such contemporary jazz artists as Branford Marsalis, Wynton Marsalis, Diana Krall, Joe Lovano and Roy Hargrove.

A highly respected educator and clinician, Lewis joined the faculty of the ASU School of Music in January 2017 as the Bob and Gretchen Ravenscroft Professor of Practice in Jazz.
