Spoken World to Welcome Prentice Powell with Valley Artists, 2/27

Prentice Powell, the first spoken word artist to appear on The Arsenio Hall Show, will headline the second event in Mesa Arts Center's Spoken World series on Friday, Feb. 27 at 8:00 p.m. in the Piper Theater. Tickets are available in the Mesa Arts Center Box Office, at mesaartscenter.com or by calling 480-644-6500.

Powell is an accomplished spoken word artist, an educator, a family man and one fifth of the spoken word collective Fiveology. He has been recognized as Spoken word Artist of the Year by the Black Music Awards (2007), as the East Bay Express Best Poet (2011), and as a NAACP Image Award Nominee (2013). Powell has shared the stage with musical acts such as Anthony Hamilton, Stevie Wonder and Jill Scott, and is the only poet to have made appearances on all four seasons of TV One's "Verses and Flow."

Joining Powell on stage will be emcee and poet Tomas J. Stanton, renowned spoken word artist and series curator Marc Bamuthi Joseph, Billboard Charting Artist Vaughn (SWIF) Willis and his band Ear Candy, Jazz/Soul/Funk band Painted Soul, poet and musician Mystic Blu, 2013 Spoken Word Poet of the Year "Truth B. Told" and Valley-based DeeJay Panic.

Remaining performances in the 2014-15 Spoken World series include spoken word artists Denise Jolly and Sonya Renee Taylor (April 3), and The Soul Justice Project (May 1).

Mesa Arts Center is located at One East Main Street in downtown Mesa.
