Southwest Shakespeare Co Presents THE COMPLEAT WRKS OF WLM SHKSPR (Abridged) 11/28
Southwest Shakespeare Company continues its 16th season with the opening of The Compleat Wrks of Wllm Shkspr (Abridged) on Nov. 28 in Mesa.
The Compleat Wrks is a parody of the works of Shakespeare performed at a heightened speed and with only three actors. All 37 plays are smashed into 97 minutes of comedic uproar including modern references, lewd jokes, and truths about the Bard that even the most esteemed scholars will appreciate.
The Compleat Wrks is produced by Southwest Shakespeare Company, previewing November 28, 2009, and the show runs November 29 -December 19, 2009, at the Farnsworth Studio Theater, Mesa Arts Center, One East Main Street, Mesa (Center and Main Street; half-mile east of Country Club Drive). Performances are Thursday, Friday & Saturday at 7:30 p.m. with additional performances / matinees: Sat, Nov. 28 at 2 p.m.; Sat, Dec 5, 12, 19 at 2 p.m. and Sun, Nov. 29 at 2 p.m.; Sun, Dec. 6 and 13 at 3 p.m.

The Compleat Wrks was written by the Reduced Shakespeare Company, and was first performed at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 1987. It later played at the Criterion Theatre in London, where it ran for nine years. It was praised by the Los Angeles Times as "wildly funny" and by the Montreal Gazette as "the funniest show you are likely to see in your entire lifetime".
Director Jared Sakren says, "I recommend this for all those people who love Shakespeare, but even more for all those who hate Shakespeare. This is our Christmas gift to you. But bring an oxygen mask because you might be laughing so hard you run out of air."
