Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts Presents THE CAPITOL STEPS, 11/25 & 26

By: Oct. 27, 2011

Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts will present The Capitol Steps on Friday, Nov. 25, at 8 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 26, at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Tickets are available for $49 or $59 online at www.ScottsdalePerformingArts.org or through the Patron Services Box Office at (480) 499-TKTS (8587).

Celebrating their 30th anniversary, the Washington, D.C.-based Capitol Steps are an annual Thanksgiving weekend tradition at Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts. Set to popular music, the group's political satire pokes fun at all sides of the issues, from left to right. With election season in full swing and the whiff of fresh scandal in the air, there is never a shortage of material for the Steps' wickedly irreverent songs and skits.

Depending on the latest headlines, the Steps will perform selections from their up-to-the-minute repertoire, including numbers from their latest album, Desperate Housemembers, with possible ‘guest appearances' by President Barack Obama, Speaker of the House John Boehner, assorted presidential candidates and Wasilla/Scottsdale snowbird Sarah Palin, among many others.

The Capitol Steps began in 1981 as a Christmas party skit in the office of Senator Charles Percy. The rest is history. During the past three decades, the Steps have recorded more than 30 albums, performed for five U.S. presidents and appeared on Good Morning America, The Today Show, 20/20, Entertainment Tonight, Nightline, CNN's Inside Politics and dozens of times on National Public Radio's All Things Considered.
