Prescott Fine Arts Presents The Concert 'Around the World in Music' 9/26

Prescott Fine Arts presents the first concert of the Season, Around the World in Music, on Saturday, September 26th at 2 pm and 7:30 pm. Ticket prices are $12.00 for adults and $5.00 for youths 12 years and under, which benefit PFAA's Scholarships for Youth.

This concert features instrumental and choral works from a variety of cultures. It opens with a delightful original composition from Prescott composer John Bresnahan, The Donkey's Egg, based on an ancient Korean children's story about a farmer and his wife who are very naïve about farming and life in general. They do funny things that amuse the local townsfolk, and eventually a merchant sells them a watermelon that he swears is a donkey's egg. The resulting fiasco proves to be funny and sad until a kind gentleman helps them out of their delusion, and puts them on the road to financial success; giving a happy ever after ending to the story.

This delightful story will be told in Korean by Serena Bresnahan, who will be in original Korean dress. The story will also be told in English by Ann Myers, a retired teacher who has been reading stories to children for the past thirty years. The story has been set to music by Mr. Bresnahan and will be performed by a ten piece orchestra.

Also featured on this concert are instrumentalists Gary Flowers, clarinet, and Kent Trostel, piano. Gary will be performing a three part work by American composer Paul Harvey. This piece is based on three familiar songs taken from George Gershwin: I Got Rhythm, Summertime and It Ain't Necessarily So. Kent's piano selection is the beautiful Clair de Lune by French composer Claude Debussy.

This musical tour also includes choral selections from Russia, Hungary and Germany and showcases the PFAA Singers as well as several soloists from this talented group. As always, our talented musicians donate their time so that all proceeds from this concert go directly to the PFAA Scholarship Fund.
