Photo Flash: NEWSIES Seizes the Day at Phoenix Theatre
Disney Theatrical's beloved musical, Newsies, is a terrific show for the whole family! Inspired by the real-life Newsboys Strike of 1899 and based on the 1992 film, Newsies follows Jack Kelly and a rag-tag group of newsies as they take on the biggest names in publishing in a remarkable fight for justice and fair pay. Packed with show-stopping choreography and a Tony® Award winning score by Alan Menken,
Newsies is an extravagant, high-energy celebration of song and dance!
Local actor James Gish, last seen in Bullets Over Broadway and Billy Elliot, will be taking the lead as the reluctant hero, Jack. The plucky young reporter Katherine will be played by Emilie Doering, last seen as Ellen in Bullets Over Broadway. Joining them as Medda will be Chanel Bragg, last seen in Beehive. The star of Billy Elliot, Matthew Dean, returns to the stage in the chorus along with his little brother, Joey Dean. Newsies is directed by Producing Artistic Director Michael Barnard.
