Phoenix Theatre Ensemble Presents HAPGOOD 12/2-12

Phoenix Theatre Ensemble, a resident theatre company now in its 7th season, announces that Tom Stoppard's brilliant spy thriller "Hapgood" will begin performances on December 2nd and will play through December 12 at the Wild Project, at 195 East 3rd Street, NY, NY.

First produced in 1988, Phoenix Theatre Ensemble's revival of Hapgood features Elise Stone in the title role. Stoppard credited John le Carre as the impetus for this espionage mystery for the stage, which combines international espionage, particle physics, and a pair famous KGB twins as the female British spymaster Hapgood untangles a web of double and triple agents in her own agency.

Under the direction of John Giampietro the cast includes Brian A. Costello as Merriweather, Keith Hamilton Cobb as CIA agent Wates, Joseph J. Menino as the Russian physicist Joseph Kerner, Jason O'Connell as Ridley, David Joseph Regelmann as KGB twin #1, Craig Smith as Blair, Elise Stone as Hapgood, Jack Tartaglia as Hapgood's son Joe, and Josh Tyson as Hapgood's male secretary Maggs. Sets and Lights are by Jay Ryan, sound by Betsy Rhodes, costumes by Colleen Kesterson and stage manager is Miran Hyfler.

As one of England's most prolific playwrights Tom Stoppard's writing credits include Rosencrantz And Guildenstern Are Dead, Arcadia, the Academy Award-winning Shakespeare In Love, The Real Thing, The Coast of Utopia, and most recently Rock ‘N' Roll.
All performances will be at THE WILD PROJECT in the heart of New York's East Village at 195 East 3rd Street, the renovated 99-seat "green" theatre with eco-friendly features that include recycled glass tiles, bamboo plywood, low flush toilets, rooftop solar panels and energy-efficient glass windows.
