New Season of ASU Concerts at the Center Starts September

By: Aug. 15, 2012

For the second year, Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts is partnering with Arizona State University Herberger Institute's School of Music to present ASU Concerts at the Center, a series of 12 Monday-evening concerts and informal educational talks, which begin Sept. 10 with Steinway Artist and ASU Professor of Music Walter Cosand performing the music of renowned French composer Claude Debussy.

Tickets are available for only $10 through www.ScottsdalePerformingArts.org or (480) 499-TKTS (8587) and are free for all students with a current I.D.

One of the most brilliant and original composers in history, Claude Debussy was born 150 years ago on Aug. 22. In honor of the artist's birthday, Professor Cosand will perform an evening of Debussy's piano music, including his celebrated Children's Corner and the technically demanding Étude Book 2. Pianist Uni Choi will join Cosand for the Petite Suite for four hands, and Associate Professor of Cello Thomas Landschoot and Cosand will perform Sonate.

ASU Concerts at the Center showcases the many musical endeavors pursued at Arizona State University. Performed by the faculty and students of ASU's nationally ranked School of Music, the series offers a variety of genres for every taste, from classical chamber music to swinging big band. To enrich the audience experience, each event includes a pre-concert talk as part of the Center's innovative Arts-Connect program. The ASU Concerts at the Center series is made possible by supporting sponsor Holiday Inn.
