Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis Comes to Mesa, 3/8

With The National Endowment for the arts; the Mesa Arts Center is proud to present Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis on Friday, March 8 at 8 p.m. in the Ikeda Theater; sponsored by The Boeing Company. Mesa Arts Center continues to build its partnership with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, which comprises of 15 of the finest soloists and ensemble players today. Wynton Marsalis, Juilliard-trained trumpet extraordinaire and known for being extremely versatile, is the Music Director of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. Under his direction, the Orchestra plays a vast repertoire of music, from rare historic compositions to Jazz at Lincoln Center-commissioned pieces. As Director, Wynton Marsalis shows off his style and reputable experience as well. Wynton Marsalis became the first jazz artist to be awarded the prestigious Pulitzer Prize in music for his oratorio "Blood on the Fields", which was one of the pieces commissioned by the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.

Taking a note from the qualities of jazz, and using the National Endowment for the Arts, Jazz Curriculum as a guide, Jazz From A to Z provides opportunities for students and educators to improvise, analyze, synthesize, engage in group collaboration, develop an 'individual voice' and broaden cultural perspectives. Workshops and classes are complemented by free tickets for students and educators to attend live performances by the Lincoln Center at Mesa Arts Center. This exciting free young people's concert is filled with dazzling jazz artistry. Jazz at Lincoln Center FREE young People concerts are sponsored by the Act One Foundation.
