Center Dance Ensemble brings a fascinating look at the depth of love with LOVE STORIES. The performance include a powerful retelling of La Llorona (Weeping Woman) the Mexican folktale of a mother who lost her children and spends eternity searching for them.
"The story of La Llorona is a fascinating one. It is the retelling of the Greek myth of the tragic love of Jason and Medea but set in Mexico. A wife is betrayed and in her grief and anguish she drowns her two children-- and so the story goes that if you listen carefully, you can hear her wailing as she searches for them by the river banks. Passionate love, desperation from loss, the longing, the highs and the lows that love can bring to us. To express those emotions through movement is truly powerful and I look forward to sharing these stories of love with our audiences." - Frances Cohen, Artistic Director, Center Dance Ensemble
The performances will also include the premiere of Sonota in Dance, choreographed by Artistic Director Frances Cohen, to a new musical composition by Eric Sandmeyer and performed by musicians from the Pro Arte Orchestra. In addition, Diane McNeal Hunt will premiere her new piece, Touch, which explores the connections between one human to another, and shows with a single touch, how the journey begins.
