Canyon Moon Theatre Presents PANACHE, 2/3-20

The Department of Motor Vehicles.  Source of aggravation, long lines and - love? In Panache by Don Gordon inconvenience and romance intersect in a collision of surprisingly rich characters. The show runs February 3 through February 20 at Canyon Moon Theatre.This unpredictable comedy starts out simply: Kathleen Trafalgar wants a license plate with the word "Panache" on it, but Harry Baldwin has it. She is determined to get it for her husband and is willing to pay any price for it. Nothing is as straightforward as it seems, however, and what begins as a ridiculous squabble over the seemingly unimportant turns into a sometimes bittersweet, sometimes humorous quest to salvage two lives.

Originally from Australia, director Kate Hawkes did her one woman show Performing Wellness: 1 Woman, 10 Stories on Stage this past July at CMT.  Kate is a director, actor and writer whose talents have been seen throughout the northwest in projects as varied as Quilters, The Weir and Antigone.

Mary Wallin and Justin Ove return to Canyon Moon for Panache after sharing the stage in CMT's Twelfth Night. Mary also appeared in Barefoot in the Park and Justin was seen in Jerry Finnegan's Sister.

Newcomers to Canyon Moon include Doug Coblens, Larry Cohen and Linda Damita. Doug has performed in regional theatres throughout the United States and Canada in shows including Cabaret, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris.

Larry Cohen moved to Sedona in December. He began his stage career as a stand-up comic in his home town of Denver.  For the last 18 years he has performed in Philadelphia, San Diego and Key West.

Linda Damita began working professionally as an actress in her teens and spent her youth performing as a dancer and singer for theatrical productions, commercials and special events. Panache is Linda's debut in Sedona after a long break from the theater. For this production, Canyon Moon is working with two Arizona visual artists.  David Hutchens is currently the manager of the ceramics department at Arcosanti, arriving as a renowned ceramist who has been Resident Artist at the Archie Bray Foundation in Montana and the Sun Valley Center for Arts and Humanities. He is also a house designer/builder, fine wood worker and wooden boat builder. This is David's first foray into the world of theatre as a designer.

Randall Schultz is an artist who displays his work in shows such as the Orme School Art Show, the Arcosanti Resident Art Show and Art on Green in Prescott. Before attending college, Randall was a founding member of a street theater group calling themselves Space Players.

Panache plays Thursdays through Sundays, February 3 through 20. Tickets for preview performances (February 3 and 4) are $16. From February 5 through 20, tickets are $19.  Full-time student tickets are $11. To purchase tickets or for information on Season subscriptions, call CMT at 928-282-6212. Tickets are also available at Rycus' Corners and Marketplace Café in the VOC and at Basha's in West Sedona. Thursday through Saturday shows are at 7:30 p.m.  Sunday performances are at 3 p.m. Canyon Moon Theatre is located in the Oak Creek Factory Outlets, next to Village Pet Supply and Grooming, on Highway 179 in the Village of Oak Creek.
