FOR COLORED GIRLS WHO HAVE CONSIDERED SUICIDE Cast Set at Newark Museum of Art
Co-directors Daryl L. Stewart and Justin Dominic lead a seven-woman ensemble in Shange's landmark choreopoem.
Daryl Stewart Productions has revealed the ensemble for its upcoming production of Ntozake Shange's transformative masterpiece, "for colored girls who have considered suicide / when the rainbow is enuf." This high-concept, multi-disciplinary staging will take center stage for one night only at the prestigious Newark Museum of Art.
Co-directed by Newark's own Daryl L. Stewart and Justin Dominic, this production honors Shange's 1976 Broadway legacy while reimagining its "form-defying" fusion of poetry, dance, and song for a modern Newark landscape.
"Fifty years later, for colored girls remains a vital megaphone for the marginalized," says Co-Director & Executive Producer Daryl L. Stewart. "This work reminds us that women of color deserve center stage, and that our liberation is inextricably linked. I am honored to lead this 'dream team' of collaborators in bringing this incandescent verse to life."
THE ENSEMBLE
The production features seven women representing the colors of the rainbow, navigating a visceral journey of fury, tenderness, and transcendence: Zaria Wilder as The Lady in Brown, Lynn Irby Hill as The Lady in Red, Positive Gunter as The Lady in Blue, Camille Upshaw as The Lady in Green, Brissae Valdes as The Lady in Yellow, Madison Star Brim as The Lady in Orange, CiMa as The Lady in Purple, Waffiyah Saleem Iddriss and Nova Rivers as Understudies/Standbys.
