York Little Theatre is proud to announce the opening of its Annual Pennsylvania Playwright Competition. Each year YLT seeks to recognize a talented Pennsylvania playwright and showcase his or her work by producing it within its Studio Series of plays.
Notable Pennsylvania playwrights have included York native Ken Ludwig (Lend Me a Tenor, Moon Over Buffalo, and Crazy for You); and James Lapine, a Franklin and Marshall College graduate who collaborated with Stephen Sondheim on Into the Woods and Sunday in the Park with George, and has won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. YLT's 2009-2010 winning play, which will premiere June 18 - 27, 2010, is Shared Assets, a comedy by talented Pennsylvania playwright Julie Cullings.
Pennsylvania playwrights are encouraged to submit original, full-length scripts to York Little Theatre's PA Original Playwright Competition. The winning script will be fully-produced and premiere as part of the theatre's 2010-2011 Season.
Plays, in order to be accepted for submission, should be full-length, un-produced scripts by playwrights who are currently Pennsylvania residents or Pennsylvania college students. They should require a minimal set, a cast of characters numbering approximately 10 or less, and be non-musical.
York Little Theatre can assume no responsibility for lost manuscripts, although reasonable care will be taken in order to avoid loss. Scripts will not be returned unless accompanied by an appropriate self-addressed, stamped envelope with adequate postage affixed. If playwrights would like a written acknowledgement that a play was received, they may include a self-addressed stamped postcard for that purpose.
All scripts should be sent to Eric Bradley Long, Director of Artistic Development, York Little Theatre, 27 S. Belmont St., York, PA, 17403; or via e-mail to eric@ylt.org. Please include a cover letter which includes a character breakdown and brief synopsis. The deadline for play submissions is Friday, October 31, 2009. The winning play and playwright will be announced on or before January 31, 2010.
