Woodruff ACE Music Presents 2018 Fall Musical ONCE ON THIS ISLAND JR.

Woodruff School ACE Music has announced Once on This Island Jr as their fall musical. Once on This Island Jr is a highly original theatrical adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen's popular fairy tale, The Little Mermaid and the Tony-nominated Broadway musical by the legendary writing team, Ahrens and Flaherty. Through almost non-stop song and dance, this full-hearted musical tells the story of Ti Moune, a peasant girl who rescues and falls in love with Daniel, a wealthy boy from the other side of her island. When Daniel returned to his people, the fantastical gods who rule the island guide Ti Moune on a quest that will test the strength of her love against the powerful forces of prejudice, hatred and even death.

Their musical will run Thursday, Dec. 6th, 2018 at 7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 7th, 2018 at 7 p.m. and Saturday Dec. 8th, 2018 at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. During the 45 minutes preceding each performance, there will be a red carpet for all guests.

Trinity Williams will star as Ti Moune. She will be joined by Andrew Higgs as 'Daniel', Faith Johnson as 'Mama Euralie' and Ayden Horsman as 'Tonton Julian'.

The cast will also feature Lillian Cruz Garcia as 'Erzulie', Ariana Speranza as 'Papa Ge', Eva Vittorini as 'Agwe', Aaliyah Telfair as 'Asaka', Isabella Praul as 'Little Girl/Young Ti Moune, and Abby Shafer as 'Andrea'.

The 50 person cast of Once on This Island Jr.will also feature Yancy Stone, Caden Everingham, Drew Nakai, Luciano Sanchez, Collin Titus, Jessica Gibbs, Theresa Ingegneri, Carli Morgan, Rosalie Corney, Minh Hoang, Isabella Howard, Hope Johnson, Megan Basile, Caitlyn Lupton, Anna Nichols, Sarah Williams, Kayleigh Smallwood, Adien Yeboah, Jade Morgan, Anthony Bui, Josiah Jimenez, Story Dagostino, Grace Frazer, Karelly Balbuena, Brynn Gioia, Alaina Briggs, Jordan Dover, Kaleb Hadley, Sophia Everingham, Jamera Willis, Abby Lee, Brendon Pierce, Julia DiFilippantonio, Nya Stephenson and Rachel Salvtierra.

Once on This Island JR. has music written by Stephen Flaherty, book by book and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens. Based on the novel 'My Love, My Love' by Rosa Guy.

The production team includes director Spencer Lau, musical director Tanya Nakai, choreographers Spencer Lau and Ayden Horsman.

Once on This Island JR. will feature stage management by Connor Callahan and Angelina Pepper, scenic design by Spencer Lau, lighting design by Ryan Shafer, and costume design by iTheatrics and Off-Broadway costumer, Shirlee Idzakovich, poster by Allan Nazareno.

Created in 1998 by Donna Terry and Michelle Curio, Woodruff School ACE Music began theatre musicals with "A Christmas Carol" and followed it with "Annie JR". Since then the program has grown under present director Spencer Lau and worked with iTheatrics, and Disney Theatrical Group on pilots and premieres of Broadway musicals adapted for middle school (Elf JR, The Lion King JR, and Aladdin JR). In addition to this, members of the program have gone onto work in film, TV, commercials, Off Broadway, Carnegie Hall as well as regional and community theatre. ACE Music has won the prestigious Freddie G Community Service Award, multiple awards at the Junior Theater Festival, Music in the Parks, and represented the community in national, regional and local community events.

Once on This Island Jr is adapted from the Tony Award-winning Once on This Island and will feature the beloved songs from the stage musical, including Mama will Provide, The Human Heart, and Why We tell the Story.

The hit Broadway musical opened on October 18, 1990 at the Booth Theatre, revived on December 3rd, 2017 at the Circle in the Square Theatre starring Hailey Kilgore and winning the 2018 Tony for Best Revival of a Musical.
