WST Announces 2013-2014 Kids Series

By:

Celebrated for its commitment to encouraging parents (and grandparents) to read to their kids, the Walnut Street Theatre for Kids 2013-2014 Season will feature four great musicals based on popular children's books, along with a family-favorite holiday classic. Children first read great books, then watch as the stories come to life on stage. These hour-long musicals deliver real-life lessons in a welcoming, kid-friendly environment that's both creative and affordable. They're written especially for kids in grades K-6th and their grown-up friends. The Walnut takes pride in bringing together families through reading and the arts.

The 2013-2014 Walnut Street Theatre for Kids Season will feature four spectacular musicals based on your kids' favorite books! Kids and families will enjoy Seussical, Jr. (Saturday, September 21), Alexander Who's Not, Not, Not, Not, Not, Not Going to Move (Saturday, February 1), Pinkalicious, the Musical (Saturday, March 29), The Monster Who Ate My Peas (Saturday, May 31) and Philadelphia's favorite holiday tradition, Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol (November 30 - December 22).

The season begins with a magical musical that visits many of your favorite Dr. Seuss stories, Seussical, Jr. The Cat in the Hat and Jojo go on a huge "think" adventure that takes them from Whoville to Palm Beach. Will Horton find the Whos? Who will take care of Mayzie's egg? Audiences will discover their wacky imaginations as they enjoy Seussical, Jr., September 21, 2013 at 10:30 am, 1:00 pm and 3:30 pm.

Up next is Alexander, Who's Not, Not, Not, Not, Not, Not Going to Move based on the book by Judith Viorst. It's moving day for Alexander's family, but has he started packing? Alexander definitely does NOT want to move a thousand miles away! Maybe one of the neighbors has extra room for a small boy. It might just be easier to hide! Alexander finds out home is where your family is in this "moving" musical on February 1, 2014!

Then, it's Pinkalicious, the Musical based on the books by Elizabeth Kann & Victoria Kann. What is your favorite color? Pinkalicious Pinkerton's favorite color is... PINK! But what happens when, in Pinkalicious' eyes, everything turns pink. The only cure is to eat green food. YUCK! This cupcake-tastic musical celebrates desire, dessert and delicious discipline on Saturday, March 29, 2014!

Finally, how far would you go to avoid eating those yucky vegetables? When a monster appears, it's time to make the big deal! What would you give him to just eat your peas? Your soccer ball? Your bike? How much is too much? In this monstrous musical, kids discover that they may just like the things they hate, if they just give it a try. The Monster Who Ate My Peas, based on the book by Danny Schnitzlein, arrives on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 10:30 am, 1:00 pm and 3:30 pm.

WST for Kids Season subscriptions are priced so that any family can attend these enjoyable productions at an affordable cost. A subscription to the four-show series only costs $34 ($8.50 per show) in the Upper Mezzanine and $40 ($10 per show) in the Orchestra or Lower Mezzanine. Subscriptions are on sale now.
