Totem Pole Playhouse Creates New Children's Theater Company 8/7
Totem Pole Playhouse has enjoyed a long tradition of live theatre in Franklin County, presenting six shows each summer and playing to over 30,000 patrons. Although most of the fare is light and family friendly, the offerings are not usually the type of entertainment that would capture the imagination of the very young theatergoer. In 2010, a new children's theatre company has been formed to widen the opportunities for all ages in our area to enjoy live theatre.
Andrew Stephen Johnson, originally from Chambersburg now living in New York, and Rebecca Thurston from Durango, Colorado have teamed up with Artistic Director Ray Ficca to form a new company, The Totem Pole Players: Theatre For Young Audiences. They will perform Two Marys, Five Jacks and One Very Big Shoe for a free performance at Chambersburg Area Middle School August 7, 2010. The play is an audience participation show based on Mother Goose nursery rhymes. The play is most suitable for ages 4 - 10, but it will appeal to the Mother Goose lover in all of us.
Andrew Stephen Johnson is a graduate of Circle in the Square Theatre School in New York. Andrew recently appeared in Sisters of Swing at Totem Pole in 2010. Rebecca Thurston is a theatre major at the University of Northern Colorado and recently appeared in 45 Seconds from Broadway at Totem Pole in 2010.
Two Marys, Five Jacks, and One Very Big Shoe runs to for another free performance on Saturday, August 7 at 10:00 am at the Chambersburg Middle School, 1151 East McKinley Street, Chambersburg. Performances are made possible by a grant from The Franklin County Foundation.
See how many of the rhymes you remember and introduce you kids to ones they may not know.
