The Philadelphia Orchestra to Play WEST SIDE STORY, 10/5-7
It's West Side Story like you've never seen it before, as this iconic film comes to life in Verizon Hall this October. Relive the passion, the drama, and the heart-pounding excitement as the Sharks and the Jets battle it out, and Tony and Maria fall in love to the strains of The Philadelphia Orchestra led by conductor David Newman. Hear Leonard Bernstein's legendary score live while the digitally re-mastered film plays onscreen with the original cast. Embrace the nostalgia of Stephen Sondheim's beloved songs including "Something's Coming," "Maria," "America," "Somewhere," "Tonight," and "A Boy Like That."
West Side Story originally debuted in 1957 as a Broadway musical and then opened in 1961 as a motion picture, garnering 10 Academy Awards®, including Best Picture and Best Music, Scoring of a Musical Picture-earning its place as one of the cornerstones of American musical theater.
Tickets can be purchased online or by calling 215.893.1999.
Not available for this performance? Join the Orchestra and conductor Stéphane Denève along with the Philadelphia Singers Chorale as they perform Prokofiev's Alexander Nevsky, accompanied by Sergei Eisenstein's cinematic masterpiece. More information can be found here.
