THE SAFE WORD IS BEGONIA to Premiere at Philly Fringe Festival, 9/6-21

B. Someday Productions presents a World Premiere of a new play for the Philly Fringe Festival! THE SAFE WORD IS BEGONIA inspired by the telling and sometimes lurid drawings of Eric Stanton, is a comedy about spanking. It's 1953 and Women's Lib may have started in a scene just like this! Dates for BEGONIA run September 6-21, 2013 (specific show dates and times listed below). Ticket prices are $15 and can be purchased through the Philly Fringe website fringearts.ticketleap.com or at the door of the theatre on the day of the show. Walking Fish Theatre is located at 2509 Frankford Avenue, Philadelphia PA 19125.

When ultra conservative Howard tries to explain the patriarchy to his fiancee, the free-thinking and curious Dolly, she protests and thereby upsets her husband-to-be. Right after their fight, she finds an S&M magazine in his briefcase. She is shocked and a little bit curious. Together with a helpful librarian, she not only discovers the world of bondage and domination, but also finds an answer to her pressing question: should I marry this guy? 'Begonia' is an adult-themed play, and may not be suitable for young children.

Showtime is 9:00 p.m. on September 6, 7, 13, 14, 18, 19, 20, 21.

Pulp-playwright Ari Flamingo, who created this at times violent story, was inspired by the explicit graphic novels of Eric Stanton. Although the story takes amusing twists, it also reveals how institutional the abuse of women really was in certain families.

Director Stan Heleva is the producing artistic director of B. Someday Productions. Previous directing credits for B. B. Someday Productions, a 501.c.(3) non-profit theatre-arts corporation, is a small independent producing and presenting theatre company, producing mainstage shows and cabaret productions, educational outreach programs, co-producing comedy, community and family theatre programs. B. Someday was honored with its first Barrymore Award for its outreach program, Of Mythic Proportions in 2010.

Established in 2007, Walking Fish Theatre, home to B. Someday Productions, is located in Kensington, on the Frankford Avenue Corridor of the Arts in Philadelphia. B. Someday is committed, within its community and beyond, to bringing and creating art on the Frankford Avenue Arts Corridor.
