Special School Performances Scheduled At The Players Club of Swarthmore

By:

The Players Club of Swarthmore has scheduled two Friday morning school performances of their 101st Season Opener, Thornton Wilder's American classic Our Town.

PCS has been presenting live theater to the Delaware Valley since 1911. During that time the group has continually improved their production values and audience services, developing a facility that surpasses many professional theaters in the area. Their productions have received rave reviews from audiences and critics alike, including such student-friendly works as The Chosen, Schoolhouse Rock, To Kill a Mockingbird, She Stoops to Conquer, The Little Prince, A Christmas Carol, The Laramie Project and Anne of Green Gables.

Our Town is a poignant examination of American life at the dawn of the 20th Century. It is filled with humor and wonderful insights into human nature. Wilder's Pulitzer Prize-winning work has had productions all around the world since its premiere in 1939. PCS' production staff has already assembled the best cast and crew available to give students a rich and rewarding experience with this beautiful play-including former radio and TV announcer "Harvey" in the role of The Stage Manager. The entire cast (all of whom are volunteers with busy lives outside the theater) is excited about the opportunity to share this classic American theater piece with area school students. PCS has a number of teachers in the organization, who are helping the director compile a study guide for the students to use to enrich discussions after the performance and, if scheduling permits, the actors and director will engage in a talkback with the students following the performance.

The performance dates are as follows: Fri 9/23 & 9/30 @ 10:00AM

The Players Club of Swarthmore is located at 614 Fairview Road, just off of Route 320. The theatre is fully handicapped accessible and there is plenty of off-street parking for the school buses.

Any educators interested in bringing their class to one of these performances can contact Ellen Wilson Dilks of our Audience Development & Marketing Committee via e-mail at dilksew714@comcast.net or by phone at 484-442-8281.
