Respect: A Musical Journey of Women will close on Sunday, June 13 after a 20-week run at Society Hill Playhouse. The show has sold over 20,000 tickets during the engagement, which originally was scheduled for 12 weeks but extended three times due to strong ticket sales.
Producers Philip Roger Roy, Bud Martin and Act II Playhouse will take the show to the Herberger Theater Center in Phoenix and the Coral Springs Center for the Arts in Florida later this year and early 2011. Local music icon Patti LaBelle recently attended a performance at Society Hill and was quoted as saying: "I loved the show. It was the soundtrack of my life. Everyone should go see it!"
Respect is a funny, exuberant look at the lives of women using songs to tell the tale of women's evolving roles through the 20th century. The show features more than 50 favorite Top 40 songs, including "I Will Survive," " These Boots Are Made For Walkin'," "I Will Follow Him," "Stand By Your Man," "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy," and more.
Respect had its regional premiere last year at Ambler's Act II Playhouse and closed a history-making 12-week run for the theatre from May 2 to Aug. 2, 2009. The show has been performed to sold-out crowds at several venues around the country, including Atlanta, Chicago and Los Angeles.
