Plays & Players to Present SEX, DRUGS, ROCK AND ROLL

By:

Like a hard rock track turned all the way up, this hilarious and riveting one-man tour de force about masculinity, capitalism, and the great American way explodes on to Plays & Players' stage. In a nonstop, "brilliant" (New York Times) collection of monologues, characters from top to bottom of the eat-or-be-eaten food chain delve into all matters of adult behavior. After a lengthy run Off-Broadway in the 1990s, Obie Award winning playwright Eric Bogosian's creation is remounted with Philadelphia's own Eric Scotolati, bringing the era of cable, wall street, and "just say no" perfectly back to life and reminding us how little things change about the larger issues that define our time.

Bogosian uses his intelligently conceived cast of characters to comment hysterically yet softly on the bigger subjects that define our time: Male/female relationships; man's view of the world and vision of the future; and the hatred, anxiety and self-delusion so common in our modern society.

As Bogosian said, "Sex, Drugs, Rock & Roll' is about a group of characters who are energetic and interesting to me,'' he says. ''There are quirks in their thinking, the way they talk, their lives, reflecting some of the unpleasant thoughts I have going through my head that I wouldn't want to admit right off the bat.'' Join us as we explore these characters from the edge including a sleazy corporate executive, an ego ridden stud, a delusional bag-man, a cliche-filled "Naked Artist" and others in a show that is filled with laugh out loud moments and surprisingly profound quotes.

Unique to Plays & Players is its intimate Skinner Studio and its directly adjacent Quig's Pub on the third floor of the facility. This creates the perfect ambiance in which to experience Sex, Drugs, Rock & Roll, where the pounding rhythm of the production is complemented by the relaxed atmosphere of drinks and entertainment.

Eric Bogosian is best known as a playwright, novelist and actor. He wrote and starred in the play, Talk Radio (NYSF - 1987; on Broadway starring Liev Schreiber- 2007), for which he was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize and the Tony award. For his film adaptation of the play, Bogosian received the Berlin Film Festival "Silver Bear." His six solo performances Off-Broadway between 1980 and 2000, (including Drinking in America, Sex, Drugs, Rock & Roll and Wake Up and Smell the Coffee) received three Obie awards. In addition to Talk Radio, Bogosian has written a number of full-length plays including subUrbia (LCT, Second Stage, also adapted to film), Griller (Goodman), Red Angel (Williamstown Theater Festival), Humpty Dumpty (The McCarter), 1+1 (New York Stage and Film). He is also the author of three novels, "Mall", "Wasted Beauty" and "Perforated Heart" and a novella, "Notes from Underground." He is a Guggenheim fellow.

All performances are at Plays & Players, at 1714 Delancey Place, in the third floor Skinner Studio. Please note: the historic theatre is not ADA accessible. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door for general admission. Discounted group rates of $15 for groups of 10 or more and student rates of $20 are also available. Tickets may be purchased online at www.playsandplayers.org or by phone at 866-811-4111
