The producers of the Philadelphia Improv Festival are announcing some big news for their fifth year. The producers are finalizing the stellar line-up for their annual affair, which nearly doubled in attendance last year. This year, the festival will run October 1-3 run and will be held at The Society Hill Playhouse, 507 South 8th Street.

The Philadelphia Improv Festival showcases long and short form improv groups from all over the country, along with workshops to help performers hone their craft. This year, the festival is pleased to announce that it will host a special show featuring the wildly popular improvised musical group, Baby Wants Candy. At the festival, in addition to an entirely improvised 45 minute musical, Baby Wants Candy will be performing "The Dream," where after interviewing a local celebrity live, they then perform a brief improvised musical based on their life.

Baby Wants Candy has a cross-country following and teams in Chicago, New York and Los Angeles. Stephanie Weir and Nicole Parker (MadTV), Rachel Dratch and Seth Meyers (SNL), Jack McBrayer (30 Rock), Garry Tallent (Bruce Springsteen and the E St Band), and Mark Pender (Max Weinberg 7) are all featured performers with the group.

"I would be hard pressed to recommend a more entertaining or awe-inspiring live show than Baby Wants Candy," said festival Executive Producer Matt Nelson. "We couldn't be more pleased to have them for our fifth year and I'm incredibly excited to introduce them to Philadelphia audiences."

Single tickets for the festival grant admission to a block of three group shows and are $10. Day Passes are also available for $25 and Weekend Passes for $60. Tickets will be on sale at www.phif.org later in the summer.

For three days, the Philadelphia Improv Festival gives audiences a chance to see comedy created right before their eyes. Last year, the festival played host to BillyHawk (iO West), Dr. Fantastic (Washington Improv Theater), Beatbox (Chicago), 30,000 Khz of Sound (New York), Mister Diplomat (DSI Comedy Theater), and local favorites Rare Bird Show, BWP, ComedySportz, Illegal Refill, Cubed, and many others.

The producers are currently evaluating entries. The talent pool of the festival has included comedians from New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Austin, Boston, Baltimore, DC and many other cities across the country. They represent renowned improv theatres such as the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater (NYC), iO West (LA), the DSI Comedy Theater Theater (NC), the Magnet Theater (NYC), Washington Improv Theater (DC) and the People's Improv Theater (NYC).

The Philadelphia Improv Festival (PHIF) is an annual three-day festival taking place each fall; dedicated to the celebration of improvisational comedy both locally and across the country.
