There's a new movement happening! With less than five months remaining to save the historic property, a county-wide, community-led effort to save Oscar Hammerstein's home kicked-off August 23rd, with the goal of raising 2-million dollars by the end of the year! Over 20 passionate committee members, local officials, board members and volunteers, the "Friends of Oscar Hammerstein," met with the press on Oscar's iconic front porch. A new campaign logo, a naming opportunities brochure for large and small donors alike and other plans for creative fundraising were introduced.
Hammerstein's home is at risk of a 4-lot subdivision, and now the clock is ticking more loudly than ever. This committee will help cast a wider net, in hopes that Oscar's homeland will soon be "blessed forever". Fundraising progress will be examined at the end of the year to determine if the non-profit can continue its vital work, or if the house will have to be listed for sale on the open market. The Hammerstein project is a recognized 501(c)3 and has been nominated for a 5-million dollar state matching grant.
