New Comedy Cabaret A FEW OF OUR FAVORITE THINGS Announced

By: Feb. 02, 2018

New Comedy Cabaret A FEW OF OUR FAVORITE THINGS Announced Image 1812 Productions is pleased to present a special limited engagement production of Jennifer Childs and Tony Braithwaite's newest cabaret A Few of Our Favorite Things. A Few of Our Favorite Things will play for five performances only, from February 14th thru 18th, at Plays & Players Theatre, 1714 Delancey Place in Center City. All tickets are $35 ($30 for 1812 subscribers) and can be purchased at 1812productions.org or at 215-592-9560.

A co-production with Act II Playhouse, A Few of Our Favorite Things continues a 20-year artistic collaboration and friendship between Philadelphia Theatre veterans Tony Braithwaite and Jennifer Childs. Known on Philadelphia stages for masterful comic timing and a penchant for classic comedy, Braithwaite & Childs' previous creations include audience hits Let's Pretend We're Married, Let's Pretend We're Famous, On The Road Again, and a lauded turn as George Burns and Gracie Allen in 1812 Productions' The Big Time vaudeville. A Few of Our Favorite Things pairs original material from Braithwaite & Childs with vintage and reimagined material from double acts Nichols & May, Bob & Ray, Sid Caesar & Imogene Coca, and others. Braithwaite & Childs fans will also be pleased to learn that A Few of Our Favorite Things features the return of their fictional cruise ship lounge act TB & Jenny. TB & Jenny were an instant smash with critics and audiences when Braithwaite & Childs premiered the act in 2009, and they return to the stage in this revue of comedy greats from the past 70 years.

The show's director, Mary Carpenter, says of Braithwaite & Childs' history of bringing new life to classic comedy, "Jen and Tony are passionate about keeping the origins of comedy present and relevant today during a time when so many forces compete so rapidly for our attention. Why on earth would we slow down to watch some comedy routines and songs from so many years ago in a dark room with strangers where we are asked to turn our phones off? Because in that moment when you recognize yourself or someone you love in the writing of someone from years ago performed by two geniuses of today-and you laugh out loud at the same time as one, or ten, or 100 others in that same room-you remember that we are not so far apart, that we all experience the same insecurities, setbacks and triumphs. And if we are not so far apart, well, the world certainly can't that impossible to figure out."

A Few of Our Favorite Things will be performed February 14th thru 18th at Plays & Players Theatre, 1714 Delancey Place, in Center City. All tickets are $35 ($30 for 1812 subscribers) and are available at www.1812productions.org or at 215-592-9560.

A Few of Our Favorite Things is presented as part of Theatre Philadelphia's Philly Theatre Week. Philly Theatre Week is a 10-day celebration of the artists, organizations, and audiences that have made Greater Philadelphia one of the most vibrant theatre regions in the nation.
