KEANE Comes to Philadelphia in Celebration of New Album Release Tonight, 6/16
As part of a 13-city North American tour, British rockers Keane perform onstage at the Merriam Theater tonight, June 16, 2012 at 8 p.m. in support of their fourth album release, Strangeland, released May 8 on Cherrytree/Interscope Records.
The band is known for integrating piano and synth into their music, Keane achieved mainstream success with their 2004 album, Hope and Fears, which has since gone platinum nine times over. Their unique style--especially the use of distorted piano--has evolved to include an electronic sound, helping them sell more than 10 million albums worldwide. Opening for Keane is the English five-piece indie band Mystery Jets, whose new album Radlands was released on April 30.
Keane keyboardist, Tim Rice-Oxley, recently said of the band’s newest album: "Strangeland feels like an adventure that brings with it different things for different people, and like any adventure is full of uncertainty, and the potential for mishap, as well as the possibility of amazing things and glorious discoveries. I love the idea of the journey through Strangeland being a journey of redemption."
Tickets for Keane with special guest Mystery Jets are available at $35 to $45, and can be purchased by calling 215-893-1999, online at kimmelcenter.org, or at the Kimmel Center Box Office located on Broad and Spruce streets, Philadelphia, Pa. (open daily from 10am to 6pm, later on performance evenings).
Internationally acclaimed Keane debuted their first single from Strangeland, “Silenced By The Night,” on Jimmy Kimmel Live on March 12. Entertainment Weekly says the track “crackles with candy-colored ‘80s synths and soaring open-air choruses.” In mid-March Keane made their first-ever showing at the SXSW Music Festival, where they performed to packed audiences. Additionally, they recently performed “Silenced By The Night” and “Disconnected” acoustically for NME.com.
