Inis Nua Presents D.C. Jackson's MY ROMANTIC HISTORY, Now thru 2/24

By:

Philadelphia's Inis Nua Theatre Company will present the Philadelphia premiere of D.C. Jackson's My Romantic History, running tonight, February 5-24 at the Off-Broad Street Theater in the First Baptist Church (1636 Sansom Street). My Romantic History premiered at the Traverse Theatre as part of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2010 where it was awarded the Scotsman Fringe First Award. It subsequently went to the Sheffield Theatre in Sheffield and the Bush Theatre in London. My Romantic History had a sold-out U.S. premiere at The Renegade Theater and Film Group in Los Angeles.

Directed by Tom Reing and starring Jenna Horton, Emilie Krause and Aubie Merrylees, My Romantic History is part irreverent romantic comedy, part office fantasia. In the sterile landscape of office cubicles and laminating machines, a one-night stand between co-workers Tom and Amy resurrects memories for each of their first serious crush. A peppery play about lust, loneliness, loyalty and the perils of office romance, My Romantic History showcases the talents of one of Scotland's most popular young playwrights.

Inis Nua presents contemporary plays from Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales. When asked why he was drawn to create theatre around these cultures, Founder/Artistic Director Tom Reing said, "Because I love these cultures. I love their histories; but more importantly, I love what they are today and want to share that with audiences. It is the mixing of these cultures' great traditions of storytelling with contemporary themes and times that I think stays with you." My Romantic History is a perfect example of this intriguing blend.

Opening night is February 6 at 7pm, with a preview tonight, February 5. My Romantic History runs for 3 weeks, through February 24. Tickets are $20 and $25. To purchase tickets and for further information, phone (215) 454-9776 or visit http://inisnuatheatre.org.
