Inis Nua Presents A SLOW AIR, 10/2-21

Philadelphia's Inis Nua Theatre Company will present the Philadelphia premiere of David Harrower's A Slow Air, running October 2-21 at the Off-Broad Street Theater in the First Baptist Church (1636 Sansom Street). A Slow Air premiered at Tron Theatre in Glasgow before a successful run at the 2011 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Directed by Tom Reing and starring Emma Gibson and Brian McCann, A Slow Air is set amidst the memory of the Glasgow Airport terrorist attack of 2007. Athol and Morna are a middle-aged brother and sister stuck in a silence so loud it can be heard from Edinburgh to Glasgow. Her son Josh's 21st birthday wish to break their impasse gets everybody talking. Unexpected parallels between nation, family and personhood will linger with you long after you leave the theatre.

Inis Nua presents contemporary plays from Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales. When asked why he was drawn to create theatre around these cultures, Founder/Artistic Director Tom Reing said, "Because I love these cultures. I love their histories; but more importantly, I love what they are today and want to share that with audiences. It is the mixing of these cultures' great traditions of storytelling with contemporary themes and times that I think stays with you." A Slow Air is a perfect example of this intriguing blend.

Opening night is October 3 at 7pm, with a preview on October 2. A Slow Air runs for 3 weeks, through October 21. Tickets are $20 and $25. To purchase tickets and for further information, phone (215) 454-9776 or visit
