Another world premiere is coming to Hedgerow Theatre - the May 20-June 5 world-premiere of The Don by John Wolfson, winner of the Barrymore Award for Best New Play (The Lives of Bosie, world premiere Hedgerow Theatre, 2004). The Don, Mr. Wolfson's latest work, is a fast-paced thriller featuring a stellar cast led by Barrymore-award winning director Bill Roudebush, and featuring Barrymore-nominee lead actor (and Hedgerow Instructor) Tom Teti as the Don, lifetime Barrymore-award winner Louis Lippa, Producing Artistic Director Penelope Reed, New York actor Jim Sorensen, Joe Guzman,?Sara Painter and Hedgerow resident members Carl Smith and Dave Polgar.

After having just celebrated Hedgerow Theatre's 87th birthday with a week of repertory, Producing Artistic Director Penelope Reed is pleased to continue yet another great Hedgerow tradition - premiering innovative drama with an exceptional cast and director.
The Don tells the story of six people blockaded in a motel on the Mexican border, as "The Don" tries to out wit a narcotics agent in a bizarre smuggling plot. This fast-paced cliffhanger spiced with comedy, will be on the Hedgerow stage for a three-week run, May 20th through June 5th.
Playwright John Wolfson, a New York city resident who spends 2-3 months each year in London, is Curator of Rare Books at The Globe Theatre. "It is always exciting to see a play finally brought to life on the stage-as long as you have the right actors and a director who understands your intent. At Hedgerow, we have four Barrymore Award winners working on this production, so it is going to be first class," he says. His previous plays include The Lives of Bosie (Barrymore Award -Best New Play); The Inn At Lydda (presented on BBC Radio); The Peace Creeps (with Al Pacino and James Earl Jones); Jimmy Paradise, Flight 901 and The Lives of Avelar (Morgan Freeman, reading).

Performances are May 20-June 5, Thursdays through?Saturdays at 8 p.m.; Sunday, May 23 at 2 p.m. and Wednesdays, May 26 and June 2 at 7:30 p.m. There is one preview on May 20 at 8 p.m. Opening night, May 21, offers audiences a chance to meet the playwright and cast at a complimentary post-show reception.
