GoKash Productions to Present V TO X

"V to X", is the third installment of a 10-play series on the contemporary African American experience, being developed by writer/director Kash Goins. Goins' 2015 acting pursuits focused primarily on film, affording speaking roles in Stallone's "Creed" and Shyamalan's "Split". Now, the South Philly raised Lincoln University graduate returns to the stage, joining this cast in the lead role of "Wolf", one amongst the characters lauded as "Fully formed, not ciphers for didactic plot." by the independent Philadelphia arts-focused website, Phindie. The show will present Fridays through Sundays, opening 1/22/16 and closing 2/14/16. Performances will once again be held at The Skybox at The Adrienne (3rd floor), 2030 Sansom St., Philadelphia, PA 19103.

According to the 2010 U.S. census, for every 100 black women age 25-54, there are approximately 83 black men in society. About 600,000 of these men who are "missing" from American homes are incarcerated and help fuel the burgeoning privatized prison industry. While some are serving time for violent crimes, many have fallen victim to disproportionate sentencing guidelines due to the recently scrutinized "war on drugs". Unable to afford bail, thousands more remain incarcerated for years, awaiting trial.

"V to X", the prequel to Goins' Award-Winning "VI Degrees" (Best Play, NYC Downtown Urban Theatre Festival, 2009) debuted in September, 2015 and closed with 10 consecutive sold-out audiences. Hailed by the Philadelphia Inquirer as "A work that erupts with tragic power and vicious humor.", "V to X" draws inspiration from the tragic experience of Khalief Browder, whose diminished mental state from three years of abusive Rikers Island incarceration without trial drove him to suicide in June, 2015.
