Garry Marshall, Happy Days creator and Pretty Woman director, died yesterday at the age of 81. Happy Days: A New Musical, which is based on a book by Marshall, will receive its area premiere tonight by Montgomery County-based Everybody's Theater Company at Upper Dublin High School's Performing Arts Center in Fort Washington.

Based on the hit ABC television show Happy Days and a book by the series' original creator Gary Marshall, the show features music and lyrics by Oscar, Grammy and Golden Globe winner Paul Williams. Directed by Debbie Thompson, choreographed by MeLinda Tatum Kaiser and musically directed by Sam Heifetz, Happy Days: A New Musical has a cast of 22 young people from the Montgomery and Bucks county areas.

Inspired by the popular series that ran from 1974-1984, Happy Days: A New Musical reintroduces the super-cool "Arthur Fonzarelli" and one of America's most beloved families, the Cunninghams in the days of 1959 Milwaukee, complete with varsity letters, hula hoops, and jukebox sock-hoppin'. Arnold's, the famed drive-in malt shop and popular teenagers' hang-out, is in danger of demolition, so the gang, (led by Richie Cunningham) teams up to save it with a dance contest and a TV-worthy wrestling match. Even daredevil diva Pinky Tuscadero returns to help! Panic builds as time is running out, and "The Fonz" must step up and save the day!

Performance dates are July 20, 21 and 22 at 7:30 p.m. at Upper Dublin High School's Performing Arts Center at 801 Loch Alsh Avenue in Fort Washington. Tickets can be purchased for Adults $12/Children & Students $10 at Upper Dublin Township Parks & Recreation's office, by phone 215-643-1600 extension 3443 or online at www.upperdublinrec.net or at the door.
