By: Kelsey Denette Mar. 15, 2011
Civic Theatre of Allentown will premiere the film Made in Dagenham on Friday, March 18. The film will screen in Civic's 19th Street Theatre through Thursday, March 24. Made in Dagenham was nominated for Outstanding British Film of the Year at the 2011 BAFTA Awards.
Synopsis: Life for the women of Dagenham, England is tinged with the sounds and sights of the Swinging Sixties, but no one thought the revolution would arrive in their small town. That is until Rita (Sally Hawkins), an employee of Ford Motor Company who primarily sees herself as a wife and mother, is coerced into attending a meeting with union representatives. She and her colleagues become outraged by the lack of respect shown in the meeting to the female employees, so they take on their bosses, and increasingly belligerent local community, and finally their government, daring to stand up and change a system that no one wanted to admit was broken.Made in Dagenham [R] 1hr. 53mins.
