Bristol Riverside Theatre presents a reading of Jon Maran's newest play Raw Space at the next America Rising program on March 28.  Directed by the playwright Jon Marans, who recently directed his critically acclaimed production of Old Wicked Songs at Bristol Riverside Theatre in November, Raw Space replaces the previously-scheduled reading of Lay The Voodoo Down by Keith Glover.  The America Rising program, beginning at 5:00 PM with a light supper with the reading at 6:00 PM, take place at Bristol Riverside Theatre located at 120 Radcliffe Street in Bristol, PA.

The wealthy and somewhat difficult Susu Ziegler has purchased one of Richard Meier's astounding Manhattan raw space apartments overlooking the Hudson.    At first Susu had hoped to have her architect husband design this tricky space (which is all windows with a magnificent 360 degree view.)  But with her husband going through an artistic block and their marriage virtually on the rocks, she forces him to compete against Rod Menin, a younger, hotshot architect.    As the two architects circle one another, desperately trying to figure out how to make this space work and truly feel like a home, the play really becomes an examination of what makes two marriages work.   Or not work.  Throughout, this tale of two couples is told in a heightened theatrical style, compressing and playing with time and space.

"America Rising provides an intimate laboratory environment for artists to hear new work in front of an audience and to receive audience feedback," said BRT's Founding Director Susan Atkinson who curates the project and directs all the readings.  "We are delighted to be continuing our relationship with Jon Marans, one of the most exciting playwrights on today's theater scene.
Tickets to Raw Space at $15 are available by calling the BRT Box Office at 215-785-0100 or visiting brtstage.org.

The America Rising series concludes on May 16 with Janey Miller's World Tour by John Cassel.  Janey's father is dying under what appear to be mysterious circumstances, and her friend begs her to disappear as her stepmother approaches.  In this modern- day fairy tale, Janey takes a world tour, where she meets extraordinary people, falls in love and "lives happily ever after".
Since 1986, BRT has brought consistently acclaimed professional theatre to Bucks County and maintained a long-term commitment to finding and developing new plays. The theatre is the recipient of over 60 Barrymore Award nominations for Excellence in Theatre, given annually by the Theatre Alliance of Greater Philadelphia. In addition to its mainstage productions, the theatre serves as a cultural hub for the community, with such programs as children's theatre, community concerts and exhibitions of local visual arts. Currently under the direction of Artistic Director Keith Baker, Founding Director Susan D. Atkinson, and Managing Director, Amy Kaissar, BRT is in its 24th season.  For information, visit www.brtstage.org.
