B. Someday Productions Present Puppet Manualfesto's Summer Showcase at Walking Fish Tonight, 7/21

By:

B. Someday Productions at the Walking Fish Theatre and Puppet Manualfesto present PUPPET MANUALFESTO'S SUMMER SHOWCASE, a short-form puppetry slam and adult-oriented, open-microphone-type of night for puppeteers and puppetry fans alike.

Performances run at the Walking Fish Theatre, located at 2509 Frankford Avenue, Philadelphia, Pa., tonight, July 21st, 2012 @ 7pm and 9pm. Tickets cost $15.00 for General Admission; $12.00 advance purchase online at our WEBSITE: www.bsomeday.org. Leave the children at home for this Puppet Show!

Join Puppet Manualfesto's celebration of short-form puppetry and community, embracing a multitude of performance aesthetics. If it involves puppetry, mask work or object theatre we want to see and share it with everyone else. Our host Rod Icchio ushers in a night filled with short gems of live puppetry, music by our house band Up Your Cherry, our house troupe F.O.P.I (found object puppet improve) and short film screenings between set-ups. Audiences will see puppeteers performing edgy and provocative works that won't be seen in mainstream venues. Content ranges from the raunchy and risqué to the tender and tear-jerking, in a fast moving succession of both rough and polished acts. Watch as artists redefine conventional notions of puppetry. Sock-puppet mayhem may ensue as puppeteers breed new strains of creativity.

The puppetry slam is a new movement, which has been spreading across the country in night clubs, cafes, and fringe festivals. Slams are an opportunity to feature short experimental pieces and to encourage artists not generally involved with puppetry to explore this exciting medium; an open-mic night for puppeteers. Our definition of puppetry is broad and inclusive of any performance medium that involves performing objects, masks, puppets and movement. Stop on in and give it a try either on stage or in the audience. Applause winners of this slam will be awarded a fishy price and invited to face off future participants at our next events on Saturday October 6, 2012 and December 1, 2012.

Puppet Manualfesto (Philadelphia's newest puppet slam) has been awarded a grant by the Puppet Slam Network (PSN) www.puppetslam.com to hold these adult-oriented puppetry showcases at Walking Fish Theatre throughout 2012. Puppet Manualfesto's founder Martina Plag organizes and curates these showcases. Martina Plag is also founding artistic director of the puppetry atelier studium-praxis, est. 2008. Walking Fish Theatre serves as host-theater and fiscal sponsor of these events through PSN.
