Act II Playhouse Presents Summer Flings Festival, Now thru 8/4

By:

Act II Playhouse in Ambler is celebrating the start of its 15th anniversary season by presenting Summer Flings, a three-week festival of music, comedy and improvisation, from today, July 18-Aug. 4. During each week of the festival, Act II will host a different comedy or music performance.

"We wanted to produce some light, fun offerings this summer for couples, for folks on 'stay-cations,' and for people simply looking for an entertaining night out," said Act II Artistic Director Tony Braithwaite. "By offering three different shows we can satisfy different tastes or - hopefully - bring people back each week."

From July 18-21, Act II presents Just Wingin' It, which features some of Philly's funniest improvisers. With no script, these fearless comedians will take your suggestions and improvise a hilarious show that will be different every night. Just Wingin It is produced and directed by Mary Carpenter, a performer with and former artistic director of ComedySportz, Philadelphia's longest-running improv group.

From July 25-28, Act II presents Heeere's Tony!, a live talk show, hosted by Braithwaite. It will feature an original comic monologue with special celebrity guests who will sit on the couch and yuck it up with Tony and sidekick Howie Brown. The guests will change every performance, and will be listed on Act II's web site, www.act2.org. The show also includes a hilarious tribute to Johnny Carson. Heeere's Tony! premiered at Act II playhouse in 2011.

From Aug 1-4, Act II presents Broadway on Butler, a fun, musical show filled with song and dance from all your favorite Broadway musicals. Standards from shows of the 50's, 60's and 70's will be featured, along with today's hits. Broadway on Butler is produced and directed by Sonny Leo, who music directed and choreographed My Fair Lady at Act II in 2012.

Performances for all Summer Flings are Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m., Saturdays at 5 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.

Tickets for all Summer Flings performances are $20 for adults, $17 for seniors, $15 for subscribers, and $10 for students. Tickets are available by calling the Act II Box Office at (215) 654-0200, in person at 56 E. Butler Ave. in Ambler, or online at http://www.act2.org. Box office hours are 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.
