La Traviata ‘the fallen woman’ is a love story set against the backdrop of Parisian life, inspired by the stage play The Lady of the Camellias.
Violetta, a beautiful courtesan plays host to the nobility. She suffers from tuberculosis but feeling better, throws a party to celebrate her recovery. She meets the young bourgeois Alfredo, from aprovincial family, and falls in love. With a promise to renounce her partying ways, they move to the country to begin their idyllic life together. Giorgio, Alfredo’s father, concerned about the harm to the family’s reputation, convinces her to leave him.
Her loyalty and love for Alfredo forces Violetta to pay the ultimate price for his happiness. Alfredo realising too late what has happened, arrives at her deathbed.
This traditionally crafted production is a wonderful romantic opera in which to experience the beautiful music in celebration of Verdi’s birth 200 years ago.
