Variety Burlesque Show THE CANDY BOX To Premiere At Fringe World Perth

Australia's Queen of Burlesque, Imogen Kelly, brings the world premiere of her burlesque variety show The Candy Box to Fringe World Perth from 27 January to 4 February 2018.

A variety show with a difference, The Candy Box not only features some of Imogen's award winning acts such as 'Flamingo Go' (the act that won her Queen of Burlesque), 'Flutterby' and 'Clair De Lune', but also allows the audience to choose from a variety of acts and characters from a 'menu' on each particular night.

Australian chanteuse Christa Hughes (Machine Gun Felatio) will join Kelly as the co-host of The Candy Box in this cavalcade of burlesque comedy.

The variety acts comprise of the best comedy burlesque and variety talent from around the country including Australia's pocket rocket Kelly Ann Doll, Perth's swing dance sensation Bobbie Sox (adding a little testosterone to the mix), Sydney's own burly diva Diesel Darling, while Melbourne's amazing Bettie Bombshell and Perth's own Ruby Slippers complete this blaze of talent.

In a show where the audience holds the power, expect a different performance each evening, with a variety of characters to entertain. Add in the special guests, all burlesque performers of note, and you have a mixed Candy Box of fine confections.

Imogen Kelly is Australia's first lady of striptease not only renowned as Australia's Queen of Burlesque, but also crowned World Queen of Burlesque in 2012 (Burlesque Hall of Fame, Las Vegas). Imogen's background shows the variety of her styles; from Moulin Rouge kick lines to shows for celebrities and sheiks, from high-end Japanese geisha weddings to burlesque festivals around the world. Enjoying a jet-setting career as an international show pony, Imogen is also a professional trapeze artist/aerialist and filmmaker.

Christa Hughes is an Australian singer, circus performer and comedian. She utilises wild-on stage antics and a powerful voice. Inspired by some of the early blues records in her father's collection, Christa first began singing when she was a teenager. In the early 90s Christa headed overseas where she sang in jazz and blues clubs and performed in off, off Broadway shows in New York. She then moved over to the UK where she started performing and touring her solo cabaret shows. Later, Hughes was the vocalist for popular band Machine Gun Fellatio, and also the Ring Mistress with Circus Oz, among many other accolades.

Kelly Ann Doll is undeniably one of Australia's leading ladies of Burlesque, captivating Australian and international audiences with her sassy, saucy, high-octane brand of burlesque for over a decade. This talented 'pint sized pocket rocket' leaves her audience breathless, exhilarated and always wanting more. With more titles under her belt than a heavy weight champion, her diversity and passion for her art has seen her sky rocket her way to successful career as a multi-award winning swing and burlesque artist.

Former bricklayer and amateur swing dancer, Bobbie Sox stepped on stage as a male burlesque performer in 2013 after training at Sugar Blue Burlesque.

Diesel Darling is a high-octane performer. She's a dancer, an actor, a jeweller, costume and prop maker, a snake-charmer and has a body from heaven (or was that hell?). Best known for her signature "Serpentease" with her beloved pet pythons Claudia, and Danger, Diesel knows how to get people's engines revving. Diesel Darling is always dangerous, a little mysterious and entices maximum excitement. Strap yourself in for a dose of Diesel.

Hailing from Perth where she won the title of Miss Burlesque WA in 2015, Ruby Slippers is a costume creator by day, and costumer remover by night! Based in Melbourne, Ruby graces burlesque and drag stages alike, leaving a trail of glitter in her wake and earning a reputation as one of the best dressed (and undressed) kids in town.

Miss Bettie Bombshell is no stranger to the stage, she has quickly become one of Australia's favourite performers touring both nationally and internationally showcasing her unique brand of burlesque. With a veritable smorgasbord of disciplines including ballet, acrobatics, comedy, music theatre and dancing, witness the crème-de-la-crème of the carnie world do things you've never seen before, and may never see again. She's dangerously debauched, scandalously sophisticated and outrageously unpredictable.
