On April 8th, producer Marty Richards' feast of friends and loved ones gathered in celebration of his extremely accomplished life at The Edison Ballroom (240 West 47th Street) where they were entertained by a star-studded retrospective of show-stopping numbers from Mr. Richards' acclaimed Broadway musicals including Chicago, On The Twentieth Century, The Life, Grand Hotel, Sweeney Todd, La Cage Aux Folles, Sweet Smell Of Success, The Will Rogers Follies and Chita Rivera: The Dancer's Life. The Boston Theater Critics Association (BTCA) has announced its nominations for the 31st Annual Elliot Norton Awards. The awards, which recognize excellence in Greater Boston theater, will be presented on Monday, May 13, at 7 p.m. at the Paramount Mainstage, 559 Washington Street, Boston. Today in 1978, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas opened at the 46th Street Theatre (now the Richard Rodgers Theatre), where it ran for 1584 performances. The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas is a musical with a book by Texas author Larry L. King and Peter Masterson and music and lyrics by Carol Hall. It is based on a story by King that was inspired by the real-life Chicken Ranch in La Grange, Texas. The original Broadway production was directed by Peter Masterson and Tommy Tune and choreographed by Tune and Thommie Walsh.

While the world's eyes focused on the Tony Awards in New York on Sunday June 13th, theatre patrons gathered in Los Angeles to watch the ceremony live via satellite and celebrate with Annette Bening in honoring Tony winner Brian Stokes Mitchell at the 14th Annual Tony Awards Benefit presented by The Actors Fund. Nine-time Tony winner Tommy Tune served as the evening's host.

Broadway legend Tommy Tune has put his multi-million dollar Park Avenue South penthouse up for sale in Manhattan. In an exclusive video, New York Magazine takes a walk-through tour of his former home, complete with top of the line furnishings, access to his own personal roof space and, most notably, the star's nine Tony Awards atop a fireplace mantle. Tune decided to sell the penthouse in order to accomodate the needs of his pet Yorkie, Shubert. The deluxe pad in New York's Flatiron district is not going for a song, however - the asking price for the home is currently a hefty $2.35 million dollars. Today, Saturday, April 10, Tony-winner Donna McKechnie will premiere her new one-woman show, My Musical Comedy Life, at the Springside Inn in Auburn New York. McKechnie, who won a Tony for her performance as Cassie in A Chorus Line, played the inn last night as well. Richard Jay-Alexander will direct the shows with musical direction by Eugene Gwozdz. The series, its inaugral year, is being produced by Barbara Walsh (Thommie's sister), Baayork Lee (who starred in A CHORUS LINE with Thommie) and Merete Muenter.
