Princess Cruises just announced a first-of-its-kind cruise industry partnership with three-time Oscar winner and composer of Wicked, Pippin and Godspell Stephen Schwartz. The cruise line's new relationship with such a major creative talent from Broadway and Hollywood includes a multi-year agreement to oversee the creative development of four new musicals to debut across the fleet over the next several years. Happy Birthday, Stephen Schwartz! In a career spanning over four decades, Schwartz has written such hit musicals as Godspell (1971), Pippin (1972) and Wicked (2003). He has also contributed lyrics for a number of successful films, including Pocahontas (1995), The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996), The Prince of Egypt (1998; music and lyrics) and Enchanted (2007). Schwartz has won the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Lyrics, three Grammy Awards, three Academy Awards and has been nominated for six Tony Awards.

Aaron Harburg, great-grandson of The Wizard of Oz lyricist E.Y. 'Yip' Harburg has begun production on The Sound of Oz. The feature-length documentary honors both his great-grandfather and Oz composer Harold Arlen.

On January 3rd, KINKY BOOTS' Ellyn Marie Marsh debuted her solo show 'Inappropriate' to a sold-out crowd at 54 Below. Undoubtedly, one of the highlights of the show was her fresh, hip-hop version of the classic Stephen Schwartz song 'Meadowlark.'

PIPPIN concludes its Broadway run today, but the tour cast continues to bring the show to audiences across the country. In this video, the cast takes CBS Sunday Morning behind the scenes through their training process, rehearsal rooms, and more!

On September 19, 2014, some of the biggest stars on Broadway were invited to perform at a benefit concert for the Amigos de Jesus Orphanage (http://www.amigosdejesus.org/) and the children of Honduras. Among the performances was a bilingual rendition of 'Let it Go,' sung by Robin de Jesus. Check it out below!

Today in 2011, Godspell opened at the Circle in the Square Theatre, where it ran for 264 performances. Godspell is a musical by Stephen Schwartz and John-Michael Tebelak. It opened off Broadway on May 17, 1971, and has played in various touring companies and revivals many times since.The structure of the musical is that of a series of parables, based on the Gospel of Matthew (though three of the parables featured are recorded only in the Gospel of Luke). These are then interspersed with a variety of modern music set primarily to lyrics from traditional hymns, with the passion of Christ treated briefly near the end of the performance.

The all-new production of Roger O. Hirson and Stephen Schwartz's Pippin had it's L.A. Premiere direct from Broadway at the Hollywood Pantages Theater October 22 and Broadway World TV's own red carpet Los Angeles Co-Producer and on-air Host Michael Sterling and Co-Producer Jordan Santacana were there to get up close and personal with the stars. Among those attending the opening were Martin Short, Nia Vardalos, Sean Hayes, Catherine O'Hara, Dan Bucatinsky, Jai Rodriguez, Christopher McDonald, Oscar Nunez, Bo Derek, Cloris Leachman, Patrick Cassidy, Obba Babatunde, Maisela Lusha, Kevin Chamberlin, Anne Jeffries, JoAnne Worley and Scott Hoying (Pentatonix)... to name but a few.

Today in 2003, Wicked opened at the Gershwin Theatre, where it is still running. Based on the novel by Gregory Maguire, Wicked has music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, and a book by Winnie Holzman. The production is directed by Joe Mantello with musical staging by Wayne Cilento. Wicked is produced by Marc Platt, Universal Pictures, The Araca Group, Jon B. Platt and David Stone. The show celebrated its tenth anniversary on Broadway last year, and a slew of Wicked alumni attended the special event. To celebrate this day, BroadwayWorld is flashing back to WICKED's epic 10th birthday!
