Earlier today, leaders from the Broadway community gathered in Duffy Square to celebrate, what else, but the return on Broadway. 'The reviews are in. We are closer than ever to closing the curtain on COVID-19' said New York Senator Chuck Schumer. 'And when Broadway comes back, New York comes back!'
BroadwayWorld.com thought it would be interesting to go a little more 'in-depth' about the recipients, to help you better understand their being chosen and to look more closely into their lives, worlds and work. In addition, we wanted them to be interviewed by someone with whom they shared some sort of history. Next up in the special series is President & CEO of The Actors Fund, Joe Benincasa. In the video below, Joe chats with Fund Chairman Brian Stokes Mitchell, who is currently in rehearsals for Much Ado About Nothing at the Delacorte Theatre!

Just last night, the Tony Honors for Excellence in the Theatre were handed out at the Tony Honors Cocktail Party, a private cocktail reception at the Paramount Hotel's Diamond Horseshoe. The Tony Honors for Excellence in the Theatre were established in 1990 and are awarded annually to institutions, individuals and/or organizations that have demonstrated extraordinary achievement in theatre, but are not eligible in any of the established Tony Award categories. This year's Tony Honors will be presented to Joe Benincasa (President & CEO of The Actors Fund), Joan Marcus (Broadway photographer), and Charlotte Wilcox (general manager).
In the video below, watch acceptance speeches from all three of the honorees!

We reached out to Jerry Mitchell, who has worked with Wilcox on many of his Broadway projects over the course of their careers.
Today we continue our Tonys coverage with Joe Benincasa a honoree for Excellence in the Theatre, who chats about how what being with the Actors Fund has meant to him, where he is going to keep his Tony, and more. Check out what he had to say below!

The production played 3 nights - July 31, August 1 and August 2 to cheering crowds, but the crazy part is - the final dress is done at 10am, in broad daylight and is open to the public, as the venue is a county-owned facility. People showed up in droves, for the run-through and cheered on the actors, the Hollywood Bowl orchestra and conductor Kevin Stites, who you will see is wearing a black, casual shirt for the rehearsal. The show's director, Richard Jay-Alexander, made a brief speech before the run, welcoming everybody, and in this exclusive footage, I was also able to catch him, in his dressing room, before the Opening Night performance.
Well, here it is folks ?the LES MIZ finale - footage from the Opening Night performance at The Hollywood Bowl. From the overwhelming e-mail response we've received re: the LES MIZ pieces on BWW, we know it was clearly worth the trip to the West Coast to bring you comprehensive coverage.
