As BroadwayWorld previously reported, Disney might bring the beloved characters from 1984's THE MUPPETS TAKE MANHATTAN to the Great White Way. The New York Post's Michael Riedel reports that the Walt Disney Company, which has had the rights to the Muppets since 2004, is 'exploring the possibility' of a Muppet musical coming to one of Jujamcyn's five theaters.
Over the years, the Muppets welcomed plenty of Broadway guests and featured many Broadway tunes. In honor of today's news, BroadwayWorld brings you a roundup of some of our favorites!

The National Museum of American History received a new donation of more than 20 Jim Henson puppets and props on the anniversary of his birthday—Sept. 24, 1936—from the Henson family. Miss Piggy and the Swedish Chef from The Muppet Show, Bert and Elmo from Sesame Street, and Red Fraggle and Traveling Matt from Fraggle Rock are among the new additions. They will join the museum's current Jim Henson Collection, which includes Oscar the Grouch, Kermit the Frog and the cast of Sam and Friends.

Sesame Street is an American children's television series created by Joan Ganz Cooney and Lloyd Morrisett. The program is known for its combination of Jim Henson's Muppets, animation, short films, humor, and cultural references. The program was conceived in 1966 during discussions between Cooney and Morrisett. The series premiered on public television stations on November 10, 1969 to positive reviews. By its 40th anniversary in 2009, Sesame Street was the fifteenth-highest rated children's television show in the United States.
