Today in 1964, The Crucible opened at the Belasco Theatre, where it ran for 16 performances. The Crucible is a 1952 play by the American playwright Arthur Miller. It is a dramatization of the Salem witch trials that took place in the Province of Massachusetts Bay during 1692 and 1693. It was first performed at the Martin Beck Theater on Broadway on January 22, 1953. The production won the 1953 'Best Play' Tony Award. It is a central work in the canon of American drama.
The cast and crew of the new off-Broadway musical LAZARUS were devastated to learn of yesterday's news that the production's co-writer, David Bowie, had passed away from liver cancer at the age of 69.
David Bowie has shared a first listen to 'Lazarus,' the second single off his upcoming album Blackstar. The song will debut in full this Thursday, December 17th on the BBC and NPR.
The Young Vic's critically-acclaimed production of Arthur Miller's A View from the Bridge, directed by Ivo van Hove, opened just last night, November 12, at the Lyceum Theatre (149 West 45th Street). The production, which swept the 2015 Olivier Awards -- winning for Best Revival, Best Director, and Best Actor (Mark Strong), will play an 18-week limited engagement through Sunday, February 21, 2016.
