From December 20, 2016 until January 2, 2017 BAD REP will be in residence at IRT in NYC. The collaborative group will present a 'wHoly, unHoliday series of events' which include "Fractured Hearts & Lurid Details", a play written by Pamela Enz and directed by Vera Beren along with several pop-up workshops facilitated by Connie Noyes, visiting cohort from Chicago. The play will run from December 21-23, 27-30 at 8:00pm and December 31 at 6:00pm at IRT Theater 154 Christopher Street, NYC, NY 10014.
Joey Merlo's The Witch of St. Elmora Street explores love, heartbreak, and witchcraft within an Italian-American family circa 1987. Weaving together tales of family lore and superstitious hearsay The Witch of St. Elmora Street is a grotesque comedy about what it means to live with a broken heart.
Steppenwolf continues its 41st season with the Chicago premiere of Lucas Hnath's The Christians directed by ensemble member K. Todd Freeman. The cast features ensemble member Tom Irwin as Pastor Paul and ensemble member Robert Breuler as Elder Jay with Shannon Cochran as the Pastor's wife, Elizabeth, Glenn Davis as Joshua and Jacqueline Williams as Congregant. Set designer Walt Spangler transforms The Downstairs Theatre into a church where a live choir performs onstage. Under the musical direction of Jaret Landon, the choir features Faith Howard, Yando Lopez, Jazelle Morriss, Mary-Margaret Roberts, Charlie Strater and Michael Weatherspoon.
The IRT Theater presents Veronica Cooper & Adam Thomas Smith's Wake Up Call, a 90-minute contemporary play set in the lobby of a luxury boutique hotel in New York City. In the midst of an unexpected double shift (on Christmas Eve, no less) a group of degenerate hotel employees stumble their way through an unusual night of service. It's a 'coming of age when you're already of age' story. Sometimes it takes a miracle to grow the hell up. While navigating through the misadventures of the evening, from outlandish guests to unpredictable coworkers, we follow their journey into adulthood. Sort of.

United States Artists (USA) has announced the 2016 USA Fellowship Awards. This year, 46 artists across nine creative disciplines will receive unrestricted $50,000 cash awards. The awards honor their creative accomplishments and supports their ongoing artistic and professional development.

Waterwell announced today the revival of the Blueprint Specials, a series of lost WWII-era musicals composed principally by Broadway legend Frank Loesser to be presented in association with the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum and The Public Theater's Under the Radar Festival. The production will star Tony Award nominees Laura Osnes (Cinderella, Bonnie and Clyde) and Will Swenson (Hair) and be directed by Drama Desk nominee Tom Ridgely.

This week has been a lot of schoolwork and rehearsals (the usual). So, I decided to interview one of my favorite humans who happens to also be in the theatre. LeeAnn Dowd was the first Chapman person I met; it was during the summer before my freshman year in NYC while she was interning. We instantly hit it off and she even came to one of our shows! During my freshman year I looked at LeeAnn, a senior at the time, as a role model; she started Cross the Line with another senior, Sierra Stenzel, the club that I'm leading now. Our outlook on theatre was very similar. We also went on to do ASTEP's Artist as Citizen Conference together, which was an incredible experience for us to share. Even though LeeAnn has graduated and moved to San Francisco, we still keep in touch and she graciously let me interview her for the blog.
