Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts at Brooklyn College is pleased to announce its 2015-16 jazz series, celebrating a truly American musical genre with an array of world-class artists that represent both classics from the past and today's more innovative and ever-changing sounds.

AIN'T MISBEHAVIN' to Return to Porchlight This Holiday Season

Porchlight Music Theatre announces the return of its multi award-winning hit AIN'T MISBEHAVIN', November 14 - December 20, music by Thomas "Fats" Waller, book by Murray Horowitz and Richard Maltby Jr., direction and choreography by multi Jeff-Award winner and Artistic Associate Brenda Didier with music direction by Jeff-Award winning Porchlight Artistic Associate Austin Cook at Stage 773, 1225 W. Belmont Ave. 

Turtle Island Quartet & Cyrus Chestnut Set for Dizzy's, 10/8

With their trademark wit, virtuosity and irreverence for traditional genre demarcations, the members of the Turtle Island Quartet are the perfect candidates to put a thoroughly unique spin on the works of Jelly Roll Morton, Scott Joplin and Thelonious Monk, drawing out surprising connections along the way. On their brand new program, Jelly, Rags & Monk, the Turtle Island Quartet reunites for the third time with the extraordinary jazz pianist Cyrus Chestnut, after a series of special performances for TIQ's 25th anniversary season with mandolinist Mike Marshall that featured “astonishing versatility,” according to The Washington Post.

His movies are a love letter to a glorious period in American music, featuring some of cinema's most memorable musical moments. Celebrate the collaboration between a great filmmaker and his passion for music with an evening of live performances by three of music's finest song interpreters on Thursday, October 8 at Town Hall in New York City.

Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts at Brooklyn College is pleased to announce its 2015-16 music series. This year's lineup includes 61st Season opener Michael Feinstein, a children's favorite Black Violin, a reimagining of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band by Art of Time Ensemble, a holiday concert by Vienna Boys Choir, Robert Glasper Trio, a jazz violin virtuoso Regina Carter, and a tribute to Nat King Cole featuring Ramsey Lewis and John Pizzarelli. These musical events reflect the artistic excellence and cultural diversity to which Brooklyn Center is dedicated.

Next spring, Audra McDonald, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Billy Porter, Brandon Victor Dixon, and Joshua Henry will star in SHUFFLE ALONG Or The Making of the Musical Sensation of 1921 and All That Followed, a striking new production that presents both the 1921 musical itself, and additionally details the events that catalyzed the songwriting team of Noble Sissle and Eubie Blake, and librettists F.E. Miller and Aubrey Lyles to create this ground-breaking work.
