World Music Institute Announces 2016-17 Fall/Winter Season

World Music Institute announces the fall and winter portion of the 2016-17 Season. In its second season under Artistic Director Par Neiburger and Executive Director Gaby Sappington, WMI will be curating a uniquely wide range of world music, from traditional and folkloric to the experimental and avant-garde.

STAR TREK with the NSO, Tony Bennett and More Coming Up at Wolf Trap This Summer

Some highlights of what's coming up this summer at Wolf Trap include: The Firebird (July 23); Star Trek Into Darkness with the NSO - and a pre-show Trek talk with Adam Nimoy (Leonard's son), Dave Zappone (For the Love of Spock), and Terry Farrell (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine) along with several NASA staff (July 30); and the National Park Service Centennial celebration weekend, which features performances by Ricky Martin (August 24+25), Aretha Franklin (August 26), and Bonnie Raitt (Augsut 27). Gabrielle Stravelli to Perform at Kitano Jazz, 7/13

?GABRIELLE STRAVELLI - the celebrated pop/jazz vocalist and songwriter called an "outstanding singer" by The Wall Street Journal and "hotter than the equator" by The Village Voice - will introduce a new evening celebrating the legendary songwriters Johnny Mercer and Hoagy Carmichael at Kitano Jazz (66 Park Avenue at 38th Street) on Wednesday, July 13 with sets at 8:00 PM and 10:00 PM. In addition to well-known standards by Mercer ("Dream") and Carmichael ("Stardust") and compositions they wrote together ("Skylark," "In The Cool Cool Cool of the Evening"), the show includes collaborations with other composers and lyricists. The evening also features rare material by the pair from their Broadway Show I Walk With Music and movies from the 1950s and 60s. She will be joined by Art Hirahara on piano, Pat O'Leary on bass and Eric Halvorson on drums.

Billy Childs Named President of Chamber Music America

Chamber Music America (CMA) today announced the appointment of pianist and composer Billy Childs as president of its board of directors, effective July 1. Childs is the organization's ninth board president, and the first jazz musician elected to the position. The CMA board of directors unanimously approved his first three-year term at its June 6th meeting.

Music Mountain to Welcome Enso String Quartet & More, 7/16-17

America's oldest continuing summer chamber music festival, Music Mountain, continues its exciting 87th Anniversary Season with the critically acclaimed Enso String Quartet with guest artist Daniel Epstein, piano performing Turina, Beethoven, and Schumann on Sunday, July 17 (3PM). As the first collaboration with the acclaimed Catskill Jazz Factory and MM, jazz vocalist Joanna Wallfisch will sing the sounds of the 1960s on Saturday, July 16 (6:30pm). The Music Mountain summer is in full swing and will feature 7 more weekends of incredible music including returning favorite chamber ensembles and musicians, first-time guests (pianist Richard Goode), the ever-popular Saturday Evening Twilight Series, featuring an array of Jazz ensembles and musicians, including the artists of the Catskill Jazz Factory, and the second season of the new Music Mountain Master Classes for Young Artists plus so much more! ArtsRock to Appoint Elliott Forrest as New Executive Director

The Board of ArtsRock has announced that Elliott Forrest, Artistic Director of the organization from its inception in 2008 will become the non-profit's first Executive Director starting July 1, 2016. Forrest will remain as Artistic Director in addition to his new role for ArtsRock who served over 2,000 audience members during their 2015-2016 Winter/Spring Season. Offering residents in and around Rockland County access to professional arts and multi-cultural programs all at reasonable ticket prices.

Birdland Jazz Club has announced its July 2016 schedule, featuring Stacey Kent, The Birdland Big Band 10-Year Celebration, The Legendary Count Basie Orchestra, Nicholas Payton Quintet, Arturo O'Farrill Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, Tony Yazbeck, Lesli Margherita, Ravi Coltrane, Laila Biali, Barbara Carroll, Jim Caruso's Cast Party, and more!

BMI Jazz Composers Workshop Showcase Concert Set for 6/22

The BMI Jazz Composers Workshop, a prestigious creative forum for musical exploration and development, will highlight the best new big band and jazz orchestra compositions created during the past year, culminating in a performance at the 28th Annual Summer Showcase Concert.
