Kurt Elling Celebrates New Album PASSION WORLD at Birdland This Week

Kurt Elling, the preeminent male vocalist in jazz, released Passion World - his fifth album from Concord Records - yesterday, June 9. For his most ambitious project yet, Elling casts his net far and wide around the globe, using songs rooted in Iceland (Bjork's 'Who Is It') to Ireland (U2's 'Where The Streets Have No Name'), France (Edith Piaf's 'La Vie En Rose') to Brazil (Dorival Caymmi's 'Voce Ja Foi a Bahia?') and beyond, to explore the passionate forces that shake our souls. Park Avenue Chamber Symphony Sets 2015-16 Season

After completing a 15th anniversary season which featured a critically heralded performance of Stravinsky's Rite of Spring, David Bernard, Music Director of the award-winning Park Avenue Chamber Symphony, has announced the ensemble's 2015-16 season of concerts. Highlights include a roster of superb soloists (pianist Jeffrey Biegel, jazz pianist Ted Rosenthal, and cellist Inbal Segev,) insightful programs spanning music from Beethoven through Bartók, and a new concert format where the audience sits among the players of the orchestra for a performance of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony.

STAGES St. Louis celebrates its 100th production with Smokey Joe's Cafe, from the legendary rock and roll songwriting team, Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller. The show will run through June 28 at the Robert G. Reim Theatre in Kirkwood. Due to an unprecedented advance in sales, STAGES has added a performance to the original schedule on Sunday, June 21st at 7:30 pm.

Bruce Lundvall, former CEO of Blue Note Records who signed artists such as Herbie Hancock, Wynton Marsalis, Natalie Cole and Norah Jones, passed away today, May 19, 2015, due to complications from a long battle with Parkinson's disease. He was 79.
