Combined Artform/Theatre Asylum are thrilled to announce the comeback of PULP SHAKESPEARE (or Bard Fiction), adapted by Ben Tallen, Aaron Greer & Brian Watson-Jones directed by Ovation Award winning director Amanda McRaven. PULP SHAKESPEARE will be opening Friday, January 23, 2015 at Theatre Asylum in Hollywood, running Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 3pm through March 8. Preview January 16.

Marthinus Basson's epic South African adaptation of Shakespeare's classic, MACBETH.SLAPELOOS, featuring a star-studded cast, will be performed in Afrikaans with English surtitiles, at the Baxter Theatre for three weeks only, from 4 to 21 February at 7.30pm nightly. This is the final production in the Baxter's highly successful Afrikaans season, supported by KykNET.

Today in 1915, The Merchant of Venice opened at the 44th Street Theatre. A tragic comedy by William Shakespeare, the play believed to have been written between 1596 and 1598. The title character is the merchant Antonio, not the Jewish moneylender Shylock, who is the play's most prominent and most famous character. This is made explicit by the title page of the first quarto: The mo?t excellent Hi?torie of the Merchant of Venice. The play was recenlty brought to Broadway in 2010 after a successful run at Shakespeare in the Park with Al Pacino and Lily Rabe.

Today in 1982, Macbeth opened at the Circle in the Square Theatre, where it ran for 21 performances. Written by William Shakespeare, Macbeth is about a regicide and its aftermath. It is Shakespeare's shortest tragedy and is believed to have been written sometime between 1603 and 1607. The earliest account of a performance of what was probably Shakespeare's play is April 1611, when Simon Forman recorded seeing such a play at the Globe Theatre.

A Noise Within (ANW), the acclaimed classical repertory theatre company, continues its 2014-2015 REVOLUTIONary season with two new productions: The Threepenny Opera, Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill's groundbreaking theatrical work in Michael Feingold's translation February 15 through May 9 (press opening February 21) and William Shakespeare's Julius Caesar March 22 to May 8 (press opening March 28). While both plays spoke to the times in which they were first produced - Weimar Germany and Elizabethan England, respectively-they also speak to this season's theme of REVOLUTION, most especially from a socio-political point of view.

Nigel Redden, Director of Lincoln Center Festival, today announced the line-up for the 20th edition of the Festival, which runs from July 6 through August 2, 2015. The Festival will unfold in six venues on and off the Lincoln Center campus. There will be a total of 58 performances by artists and ensembles from Germany, China, England, Ireland, Russia, USA, and Japan.
